Our mission: unique toys, sustainable without compromise
Since our founding in 2011, we have always pursued the goal of developing innovative movement games that are not only fun, but also make a positive contribution to the environment. Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our consistent choice of natural materials - from wood and cardboard from sustainable forestry to new, innovative bio-based plastics. Our goal is to create a circular economy in which we use resources efficiently, minimize waste and design toys so sustainably that they can be returned to the production process at the end of their life.
Despite our efforts, we must recognize that sustainable design often requires compromises. Certain materials and production processes are difficult or expensive to make environmentally friendly. We became particularly aware of this challenge when we realized our heart's project: the production of sustainable juggling balls made of cork.
In this article, we would like to inform you about the successes and obstacles on our way and proudly present our result. Although we have not fully achieved our goal of creating a 100% natural product, we are happy to have taken a big step in developing the first sustainable juggling balls with Corkolores Juggle and Corkolores Roule. A sporting challenge, a radical approach to CO2-free travel or just crazy? No matter how you call it, for 3300 kilometers on the bike in just 19 days, it really takes strength and willpower! TicToys founder Tony proved this when he embarked on a very special business trip at the end of October. His idea was to travel to Portugal in a climate-neutral way! The goal was no accident. At TicToys we have been working with the sustainable raw material cork, which is mainly native to Portugal, for a long time. For example, we source the cork for our das.Brett accessories from Portugal and maintain close relationships with our suppliers.
"corkolores Roule" is a fresh reinterpretation of the traditional French game of boules (known in Italy as boccia). Unlike classic boules games where balls are thrown, the "balls" in corkolores Roule are designed to be rolled, similar to a bowling ball.
Another special feature of corkolores Roule is the ability to stack the rolls on top of each other. This unique design adds a whole new dimension to the throwing game and offers a variety of new game options. The included instructions introduce different ways to throw for points and stack towers.
corkolores Roule is made from the same high-quality materials as our Corkolores Jugg. The rolls are comfortable to grip and suitable for both children and adults. They are soft, noiseless and pose no risk of injury, making them a perfect game for indoor use.
But corkolores Roule is also great fun outdoors. This dynamic game of skill brings family and friends together and provides hours of entertainment in the park, on the beach or on the lawn - discover a completely new form of throwing game!
Design and manufacturing in Germany
Production in German factories represents a significant challenge, especially in an industry that has moved most of its production processes to China to benefit from lower labor costs there. The production of our juggling balls requires a high level of craftsmanship and precision that goes far beyond what is necessary, for example, to make a T-shirt. This high-quality craftsmanship comes at a price. Just sewing a single ball is expensive. In addition, there are the costs for the cork leather, the dyeing, the millet filling material, the filling and sewing as well as the packaging and instructions.
For comparison: You can buy a complete juggling ball set, which is also hand-sewn, on Alibaba for less than €2! This drastic price difference highlights working conditions in China, where low wages and less stringent environmental and social standards lead to such low prices. We are aware that our juggling balls cannot be offered at dumping prices in Germany due to the high costs of high-quality materials and fair wages. Our project is a lover's project with which we would also like to point out global inequalities in living and working conditions.
