In this article we will introduce you to throwing techniques, various game ideas and rules for 2 players as well as exciting variants for groups. The first sustainable outdoor game:

Tualoop The story of Tualoop begins in the Nuremberg Toy Museum, where TicToys founders Tony and Matthias discovered a miniature of the French ring throwing game "Jeux de Graces". Fascinated by this historical game, after a lot of research and experimentation they began to develop a modern version. This is how Tualoop was born - the first sustainable outdoor game.

Tualoop is made entirely of natural materials: the throwing sticks are made of local beech wood and the ring is made of the bio-material Arboblend, a mixture of sugar and wood fibers. With Tualoop, TicToys were the first in the toy industry to bring a product made of bioplastic onto the market in 2013 and are therefore considered pioneers.

The game is produced sustainably in Germany, in collaboration with small family businesses and the Diakonie Leipzig. Only the carrying bag comes from India, but is sustainably manufactured from FairTrade-certified organic cotton. Tualoop not only stands for fun and exercise in the fresh air, but also for responsible production and environmental protection.

Game idea and rules of Tualoop

Getting started with the Tualoop game is very simple: Two players throw the ring to each other using two throwing sticks. The ring is placed on the sticks and these are pulled apart. The ring gains speed all by itself and starts to float through the air. The person opposite catches the ring again with both sticks and throws it back. This means that the game can be played back and forth freely or, for a change, over a net.

However, there are also various other throwing techniques, such as throwing with one hand, vertically or letting the disc bounce. Tualoop also offers certain games that can be played according to rules and for points. Both the different throwing techniques and the various game ideas are explained in detail below.

Throwing techniques

In addition to the classic version, there are a variety of other throwing techniques! Try the techniques from our small overview, get inspiration from our video or invent your own techniques!

For example, you can give the ring a spin with the throwing sticks so that it spins like a throwing disc! You can let it float up to 40m or throw it vertically in a high arc or let it bounce on the ground.

Game idea no. 1 - Tualoop as a field game

Tualoop can be played over the net as a game for points. All you need to do is hang a string between two trees, or use the garden fence. A beach volleyball court is of course perfect because you can just drop into the soft sand!

Game preparation:

A net is set up in the middle of the playing field.
Two playing fields are marked (e.g. 4x4m each)
Each player receives two throwing sticks and a ring.

Start of the game:

The game begins with a serve behind the baseline. The ring is thrown over the net using the throwing sticks.

Basic rules:

Throwing and catching: The ring can be thrown with one or two sticks. You can catch the ring before you play it back. You can run as many steps as you like between throwing and catching. There is only one basic rule: the ring cannot be thrown from above the net ("smashing" is prohibited). The serve takes place at the baseline. If the ring touches the net during the serve, it is repeated. If it gets stuck in the net, this is of course a point loss.
Scoring: The ring can bounce or roll on the floor and can continue to be played as long as it does not stay on the ground. Points are awarded as soon as your opponent does not catch the ring, the ring stays on the field or the ring stays outside the field after the ring has touched the field (similar to volleyball or badminton, for example). Change of
serve: After each point, the serve changes to the other player.

Winning conditions:

The game is played to a set score (e.g. 15 points).
The player who reaches the set score first wins the game.

The field game can also be played in a group. Only one player per team stands in the field, the others wait outside. After the throw, the players switch immediately.

Game idea no. 2 - Target throwing

Tualoop becomes even more varied and exciting thanks to the possibility of target throwing! This game idea can be played one-on-one or with two teams.

Preparation:

Mark targets: Mark your targets using wooden sticks or other objects such as skittles or simply your drinking bottles.
Setup: Set up the targets in two rows facing each other. The distances between the targets can be varied depending on the desired level of difficulty.
Playing field: Each team plays on the markings in the immediate vicinity of the opposing team, similar to the game KUBB.

How to play:

Starting position: Begin the game at short distances (e.g. 2-3 meters). Advanced players can increase the distances to increase the challenge.
Throwing: Each player or team tries to throw the ring so that it hits one of the marked targets.
Hit: Once a player or team has hit a marker, it can be removed.
Change: The throw changes to the next player or team after each attempt.

Winning Conditions:

The first team to hit and remove all of its targets wins the game.

Skittles variant:

Instead of throwing over the markings, you try to knock them over.

Variant of target throwing: Skittles (similar to KUBB)

Game idea no. 3 - Golf

In Tualoop Golf, the target throwing is played in a course that you can build yourself before the game. This variant is ideal for large gardens, schoolyards or parks.

Preparation:

Mark targets: Mark as many targets as you like, ideally with wooden sticks stuck into the grass or with cones and similar objects placed on the ground. Like on a golf course, you can also play on "difficult terrain" and include hills or obstacles.
Determine the order: Remember the order of the targets or number them.
Mark rings: Each player needs a Tualoop ring. It is best to mark your ring before the game (e.g. with colored tape) to avoid confusion.
Determine the starting point: Determine a starting point for the beginning of the game.

How to play:

Start: All players start at the starting point and throw their ring towards the first target.
Target throwing: First try to get close to the target marker with long throws. Then use precision throws from close up to hit the target accurately.
On to the next target: Once a player has hit the current target, it's on to the next target in the set order.

Winning conditions:

Count the number of throws you need to complete the entire course.
The player with the fewest throws for the entire course wins the game.
